Forty year Legion member Rick Harris was only 17 years old when he joined the Navy. Within two months his training was complete and he was sailing for Korea aboard the Haida. With a newly discovered natural affinity for technology, Rick was selected from hundreds of recruits and trained in radar operation.
Born in Scarborough, Rick was an amateur boxer. It is a career choice that surprises his legion friends; he’s a little shy and modest and his friendly smile and amiable laugh seems to belong more to a poet than a boxer.
An injury caused by an exploding shell left Rick with permanent damage to his left hand and ended his boxing career.
Married for over 54 years to Ladies Auxiliary member Joan Harris, Rick is a father to 5, grandfather to 10 and great-grandfather to 4 wonderful children.
